Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musically inclined family on August 9th, 1963, in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. In her early years, she sang in her New Hope Baptist Church choir in Newark. At the age of she was 15years old, Houston was singing professionally as a backing vocalist with her mother for Chaka Khan's song from 1978 Im Every Woman. She continued to offer the backing vocals of Lou Rawls Jermaine Jackson and her own mother and was briefly models on the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. The singer began her career as a lead vocalist with the funk group from New York, Material and it was the high quality of her singing with them that attracted the attention of several major record labels including Arista with whom she signed in 1983 and where she would remain for the remainder of her professional career. Whitney Houston was her debut album. Whitney Houston was released in 1985 and quickly became the top-selling album of an artist who was a rookie. My Love was her debut album. My Love was released in 1985 and became a number one hit. In its first US year of release, the album had sold more than 3 million copies. Then it went on to be listened to by more than 25 million people worldwide, earning her the first Grammy. The Whitney follow-up in 1987 with the singles Where Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to further build upon the success of her first album. It was, however it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard that solidified her position as one of the world's most well-known artist. The film itself as well as the performance of her on screen were not widely praised the soundtrack album and her version of Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You made charts for albums and singles for months and sold 44 million copies across the globe. The same year that she had her daughter Bobbi, Brown married Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. About this time her well-documented substance abuse began and by 1996, the singer had been using drugs on a daily basis.
Dana Bash (also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz) is a CNN anchor and political reporter. She produced several weekend shows for the network, such as Evans & Novak: Late Edition" as well as Inside Politics." She was previously employed by NBC and CBS.
